Summer Food Program A Smash Hit

Our Summer Food Program was a big success this year. Over the course of the 10-week program, we delivered 6,936 lunches to children in our community. ARM provided the snack bags that went with the lunches every day and the following local churches provided the lunch sandwiches for the program: First United Methodist, Slagles Methodist, Hunter United Methodist, Oak Street Baptist, Valley Forge Free Will Baptist and Elizabethton Alliance. We delivered meals Monday through Friday to the following communities: Lynnridge and Lynnwood; Alexander Apartments; Bristol, Daytona and Talledega Apartments; South Hills; Arney Hill; and to the Tree House Community Center. We delivered the meals using the Women’s Center’s RV. The communities we served really benefited from the program and every day the children would come running when they saw our vehicle pull into the parking lots to deliver the meals. During the last week of the program we also handed out collapsable lunch boxes filled with school supplies to all the children. The school supplies were donated by the Women’s Center, Hunter United Methodist and Slagles Methodist churches.
